Frequently Asked Questions
What is Rush?
Rush is a structured one-week period when we, the brothers of Lambda Phi Espsilon, host various events where interested applicants can come out to meet the brothers. Likewise, rush also gives us a chance to meet you and learn more about you. There is no obligation during rush and everything is free. Learn what brotherhood, pride, leadership, unity, and family mean to us. The only thing you have to do is have fun, meet the bros, and feel free to ask plenty of questions.
What is A Bid?
A bid is an invitation to enter the pledge process and begin the path of becoming a brother. Bids are given at the end of rush to rushees who the brothers feel would be a good fit to our fraternity. You are not obligated to accept a bid if given one; rush is completely non-committal.
Should I Attend All Events?
If you are serious about joining Lambda Phi Epsilon, you are definitely encouraged to attend all rush events from beginning to end. The events are set for you to learn about the chapter that you will potentially belong to. The brothers will be there to answer any questions that you may have about the fraternity or the chapter. It is an opportunity for both you and the brothers to get to know each other better. Feel free to ask questions and just be yourself.
What Type Of Person Are You Looking For?
We stand by our motto, “To Be Leaders Among Men” and this remains true for each and every brother in our house. In addition to finding leaders among the crowd who will ultimately become the faces of our fraternity, we seek diversity from the individual personalities that we hope will make up the house.
Am I Required To Pledge If I Attend Rush?
No. Rush is simply an opportunity for you to introduce yourself and meet the brothers. So have fun, enjoy yourself, and allow us to show you what our brotherhood is about.
What is the New Member Education Process?
If, at the end of rush, you accept the opportunity to complete the New Member Education Process of Lambda Phi Epsilon, the possibilities are endless. Stressing skills such as leadership, communication, organization, and punctuality, the fraternity’s education process will help you develop close bonds of brotherhood with men from all walks of life. These abilities have proven highly useful to brothers well outside the bounds of the fraternity. With an alumni network stretching from Tokyo to London, and with chapters at over 50 universities, you will meet brothers with whom you have an instant bond because of the ideals and experiences instilled during pledging. Simply put, Lambdas is an experience that can greatly enrich your time at the Stanford University. Don’t be fooled by the stereotypes.
Do I Have To Pay?
No, all rush events are free. All costs are funded by Lambda Phi Epsilon. Rides to all events are provided as well.
Do all Lambdas drink?
“Drinking is by no means a defining characteristic of a brother of Lambda Phi Epsilon. Just look at our new member education process. Our new member education process is DRY, which means that new members are never at any time encouraged or coerced into consuming alcoholic beverages. And even though alcoholic drinks are served at our parties, several of the brothers do not drink at all and their decision not to drink is both respected and welcomed.”
